Re-constructed

Nothing is better than having an aha moment in your closet.  I purchased this BCBG coat over a year ago but never wore it.  Once I got it home, it looked a little too inspector gadget for me so it just sat there.  While gathering clothes to leave out for the Salvation Army, I spotted a very old Dolce & Gabbana leather motorcycle jacket I knew I would never wear again but the leather was so gorgeous I struggled with keeping it, and allowing someone else to enjoy it.  Well clearly the Salvation Army didn't win this time because instantly I knew what I wanted to do with it.  I ripped the arms off the jacket and put them on the coat.  Instant LOVE!

Holiday table setting

The Christmas season is the perfect time of year for entertaining.  It allows you the best opportunity to break out the festive table settings making your friends feel special and putting everyone in the holiday season.  Walking into any craft or Christmas store is usually met with tons of red gold and green which for normal people makes them smile, but not me.  I can tolerate a poinsettia here and there but that's the extent of my Christmas red love.  When setting my holiday table, I like to stay with the color scheme of the room so It doesn't clash and make me feel like I'm in someone's horrible Christmas nightmare. I use vases, dishes and candles from around the house,  pine cut from trees in my yard, and a few pine cones from Michaels.  The result is a fresh holiday welcoming, pine scented environment.

Rock The Bells

Finding a pair of flared leg jeans for tall women is a challenge, generally we have to deal with the jean being two to three inches too short which simply make you look ridiculous.  When I spotted these 7 For All Mankind there was no need to try them on, I  knew on site they would be perfect.

DIY Closet Organization

I'm one of those people that find it very difficult to function in clutter and disarray.  With my compulsive fabric shopping I'm finding it a challenge to remember what fabric I already have, due to the fact I keep it stored in a bin.  The tipping point was when I purchased the same fabric twice!  My first inclination was to design a craft room out of a guest bedroom but thought how unfair to turn our whole house into my obsessions, so I opted to re-do a space in my closet to accomodate my growing craft and sewing movement, as well as allow for a little clothes expansion :) aka place to store overflow and new clothes.  This time I used this closetmaid product from Home Depot and these drawers, spending  $240.00 which is only a fraction of my Ikea wardrobe organization project.

DIY Canary Coat

A bright vibrant coat have been my wardrobe staples since fall hit so when I spotted this awesomely bright golden yellow wool fabric, I knew just what to do with it.  I used Butterick B4929 view D, added a collar, shortened the pattern sleeve and added a jersey sleeve.  This coat is the perfect fall accessorie.

Totally Fall

I am so completely in love with this cool weather and the idea of wearing leather, jackets and coats everyday put a smile on my face, which is evident by the endless number of leather related posts. I decided to pull out this tweed and leather skirt I've had for over ten years which surprisingly isn't dated despite the fact the tags were still on it.

DIY Leather & Wool Arm Warmers

With my endless amount of 3/4 sleeve jackets and coats which work perfectly for fall, the thought of having to retire them for winter doesn't quite work well for me.  Sure I can throw on a sweater but I figured leather arm warmers will be a bit more fashionable and versatile.

Dress: Halston
Green Jacket: London
Yellow Jacket: BCBG
Boots: Giuseppe Zanotti
Clutch: J.J. Winters
Shades: Ray Ban

Supplies: Lambskin leather
               Wool boucle fabric
               1/8" elastic

Measure bottom portion of sleeve to 9 1/2 inches

Measure top portion of sleeve to 12 inches

Measure sides of sleeve to 15 inches long

Cut all measurements exactly

On the wrong side of hide, fold in half and sew 5/8" from edge

Measure the wool and cut a 8x14" piece

Attach the wool to the correct side of the leather and sew 5/8" from the edge.  Once the edge is sewn, sew down the side of the wool 5/8" to complete.

Turn the sleeve inside out and fold the leather cuff under 1/2", pin and sew close to the edge.  Make sure enough space is left in the hem to add the elastic.

Attach the elastic to a small safety pin and fish through the hem.

Pull the elastic through until it gathers and close off with a tripple stitch.

Repeat the hem process with the wool.

Like A Fox DIY

My love of this pattern continues! While making my weekly stop into the fabric store, I picked up this adorable fox transfer foil.  I had been eyeing this sweatshirt for a while and after the 100th time stalking it, the thrill was gone which is my way of psyching myself out from buying something I will probably only wear once.  I decided to create my own subdued version.  To the pattern I added extra long sleeves with small pleats, ribbed cuffs and neck.
