I'm a big lover of clean lines and interesting details so when I grabbed this blood orange pencil skirt I knew accessorizing with booties and a cropped jacket would give it a bit more dimension.  Because my torso is oddly long I am completely drawn to cropped and swing jackets and this Burberry I've had for several years is one I will never get rid of.

Spanish Stairs

Since I can remember, I have absolutely loved lace and the delicate nature of such an absolutely beautiful fabric.  The many lace pieces I own, I have had for many years and because they are housed in a satin sweater box, hand wash with woolite and dried flat they look practically new.

In true DIY fashion, I wanted to try my hand at lace and picked up this stretch lace fabric to create this pencil skirt that I lined in a silk and lycra blend.  I now understand why lace garments are a bit pricey, sewing lace is definitely a challenge, so the man hours alone can justify.

DIY Leather Peplum Belt

When I spotted this Etro leather peplum belt, I absolutely fell in love but at a cost of $1,260 for a belt I could not wrap my mind around it.  Using Vogue pattern V8815 peplum portion only, I shortened the peplum and added a buckle and strap. I have to admit, this is now one of my new favorites.

Step 1. Cut the peplum using the instructions from the pattern using 1/2 the length of the pattern.

Step 2.  Sew pieces 6 to both pieces of 5
fold the end of piece 5 over 1 1/2" to make a beveled edge.
Sew this piece flat.

Step 3. Cut a piece of leather 10x3" and sew close on the underside.

Step 4. Using the hole punch pliers, make a hole for the buckle.

Step 5.  Insert the buckle and sew closed near the upper part of the buckle.

6.  Using the second part of the flap, sew this portion onto the right side of the belt.
Using a scrap of leather, sew a loop for the belt catch.

7.  Cut a piece of leather 12.5 x3 inches and sew on the under side to close.  Attach this piece to the
left side of the belt.

8.  Using the hole punch pliers, make the belt holes roughly 1/2" apart
Enjoy xoxo

Spicy Shrimp Tacos

Lately I've been pretty busy with little time to cook which has been completely unfair to my husband who is undoubtedly tired of eating out but would never utter the words "what's for dinner" in fear I would quote a line from the book Equal Suffrage to Equal Rights.  So I decided to make a list of recipes I've collected from my mother that require 30 minutes of kitchen time.  This should make the guy pretty happy.

1lb shrimp
1tbls dijon mustard
1tsp smoked paprika
1tsp  cajun seasoning
2tbls chopped cilantro
1tsp lemon juice
1tbls jerk sauce
salt/pepper/garlic powder
1/2 small onion
2tbls coconut oil

Whole wheat tortillas

1pkg coleslaw mix
1/3 cup miracle whip
1tsp lemon juice
salt/pepper/garlic powder

Mix the shrimp in a bowl with the next seven ingredients.
Let sit for 15 minutes.
Sautee the onion in the coconut oil until opaque.
Add the shrimp mix and cook until complete making sure not to overcook.

Mix together miracle whip, lemon juice, salt, peper and garlic.
Add coleslaw and mix well

Heat tortillas in the microwave for 15 seconds, serve with the shrimp and coleslaw.

Home Away From Home

Being married to a New Yorker and living only 3 hours away means spending many weekends visiting the city I love.  I typically don't do the tourist thing simply because after my 90th visit I figured I've seen everything, so when I happened upon this amazing view I had to get a few shots.

Tailored on top

I am the BIGGEST fan of tailoring so when I ran across this top that was over 70% off and left only in a large, I had but one option, buy it and figure out how to make it fit.  Because the top is so impeccably made, I opted to take it to a tailor instead of ripping it apart myself and for only $12.00 I think I scored a pretty good deal.

Beautiful Houghton

While flipping through the pages of Style, I came across a designer I had never heard of.  My first response was WOW this is amazing! the clean simple lines, white and cream palette was absolutely breathtaking.  I love nothing more than clothes that are easy to wear, chic and sophisticated with a vintage feel and Katharine Polk the designer behind Houghton managed to encompass it all.
