Interior designs that inspire

In my never ending interior design quest, I continue to scour boutiques and the net for inspiration.  As I walk through my home which is a designers dream due to the open layout and tons of light,  I can't resist my constant need to decorate which has been a very slow process.  As a result of this ongoing obsession, I keep a page in my Ipad in evernote labeled Home Decorating that's flooded with ideas that I've began to implement.  My goal is to update an area at least every month, so I hope to keep you posted.

Our love of the perfect Michael Kors boots?

I'm a huge lover of boots and more importantly, comfortable boots.  I decided to pull my Michael Kors Mcgraw boots out before it gets too warm and 2 hours into my wear, I remembered why this was only my second time wearing them since purchasing.  As I waited in line at one of my favorite shoe stores, the pinching of my toes made me think of an article I read where celebrities were discussing sacrificing comfort for fashion and low and behold, one of the celebrities was Jessica Simpson who clearly happens to be in love with these boots.  Call me crazy but I refuse to be in agony for the sake of a fashion statement, at least that's what I'm telling myself until the swelling goes down.

All Black Everything

Still not 100% and annoyed at the fact the weather went from 70 degrees to 35 degrees,  I rebelled with black which is by far my favorite winter color.  It's very forgiving, sleek and easy, perfect for those chilly DC dinner nights.

A little leopard

I've been a bit under the weather but ventured out anyway after a meeting to grab a bite of one of my favorite dishes along with the most awesome chai latte.   It was a lovely 70 degrees out today and completely had me envious of my LA friends.  If I could have weather like this year round, my life would be perfect!

Spring/Summer Shoe Love

The fact winter passed us by this go around and the weather is unseasonably warm, I figured I better dust off the spring/summer footwear and figure out what needs to be replaced and what will make another appearance.  I'm not too into fads or trends and the ones I do purchase are very much off the clearance rack, almost free (well not really) and for that reason, I can typically pull shoes out the fault and won't look dated.

DIY vision board

I'm in the process of re-decorating my office and wanted to incorporate a new vision board, but after searching for weeks I came up empty.  My vision board dilemma was the space I had to work with.  I wasn't interested in adding the traditional square shaped board I currently have but wanted two vision boards that would frame a large window and also not clash with the decor of the chocolate and tan, so my only option was to do it myself.  I will share the final re-decoration project next week.

{Crown Moulding, natural cork, stain, small hand saw, pencil, tape measure, staple gun, scissors}
{Stain with three coats, drying between each coat}
{Staple the cork to the stained frame}
{After stapling, trim closely}
Prior to staining, square the frame and using small nails, nail each corner into place.  I made two boards which took a full day due to the dry time.

My chewy brownie fix

I recently had a conversation with a friend in reference to OUR love of brownies particularly Ghirardelli box brownies due to the yummy chocolate gooeyness.  If I'm out and happen to come across brownies, no matter the situation I will try them and I'm typically disappointment.   Generally homemade brownies are more cake like which I am not at all a fan of.  Because I am always in search of a challenge, I have come up with most moist, chewy incredible brownies EVER.  So awesome, I had to share only to get them out of the house.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1/3 cup + 2 TBLS Hershey's cocoa
1/2 cup plus 2 TBLS hot water
2 ounces chocolate chips
4 TBLS (1/2) stick) butter, melted
1/2 cup plus 2 TBLS olive oil
2 large eggs
2 large egg yolks
2 TSPS vanilla
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
6 ounces chocolate chips

Instructions:
1.  Adjust oven rack to the lowest position and heat the oven to 350 degrees.  Line a 9/13 inch baking pan with foil, leaving about a one inch overhang on all sides.  Spray with nonstick cooking spray.

2.  Whisk cocoa, hot water in a large bowl until smooth.  Melt the 2 ounces of chocolate chips in the microwave and add the chocolate to the cocoa and water.  Whisk in the melted butter and oil.  Add eggs, yolk, and vanilla and continue to whisk until smooth.  Whisk sugar until fully incorporated.  Add flour and salt and mix with rubber spatula until combined.  Fold in the 6 ounces of chocolate chips.

3.  Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes.  The tooth pick method will not work for this recipe due to it's chewyness.

IMPORTANT
Transfer pan to a wire rack and cool for 1 hour.  Using foil overhang, lift brownies from the pan.  Return brownies to a wire rack and let cool completely.  Cut into 2- inch squares and serve.   Brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.

Red riding

This weekend I spent time running errands, working on home projects and taking a crown moulding workshop at Home Depot.  I learned of the Home Depot workshop while shopping for a new kitchen faucet and met a very nice man named Joe who told me he would be conducting the workshop.  After I registered he informed me of the no hi heel dress code :) I figured he felt the need to do that since after all, I was in Home Depot with 4 inch heels on FYI I had just come from a quick meeting and had no choice.  So I decided to play by the rules.... this is my workshop uniform.

My chocolate facination continues..........

Everyone knows my absolute love and addiction to candy, especially gummie bears.  But lately all I can do is think about chocolate, and how I psych myself out by only making small portions and saying to myself "I only ate four pieces, it's not that bad" when the reality is, I ate four pieces within 10 minutes.  Well here we go again........ chocolate covered strawberries and what better way to lie to myself than to indulge in the greatness.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup almonds crushed

Directions

  1. Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
  2. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
  3. Dip strawberries into the nuts or chips
  4. Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.
  5. Allow strawberries to cool in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours, this will yield the best chocolate covered strawberries.

Love of Tom Ford Sunglasses

I am a huge lover of sunglasses, typically I'm drawn to aviators which seem to fit the shape of my face best and is clearly evident by the 12 pair that I own.  To the naked eye, they all look the same but I can totally tell the difference :).  Recently I jumped outside my norm and purchased a pair of Tom Ford Sandrine shades that I love.  I can honestly say these are some of the most comfortable shades I have.  I can wear them longer than two hours without getting a headache.  Because of the size and shape they are awesome for those quick without makeup runs.
