DIY Maxi Skirt

While blog browsing, I came across an awesome DIY blog by Mimi G where she has a video tutorial on how to make a maxi skirt.  I absolutely fell in love! I am the queen of DIY but had never tried sewing anything other than throw pillows which was really sad considering I received a great sewing machine for my birthday last year that was collecting dust.  When I saw the skirt, so many possibilities ran through my mind, one in particular is the maxi skirt I pinned a while ago and have not been able to find the color and style with pockets that wasn't jersey.  That doesn't seem like a big request but evidently it is.  So when I saw this maxi I thought ok I've never sewn before but this skirt seems relatively easy.  I started by going to the fabric store and selecting several pieces of fabric that caught my eye simply based on color and texture.  When the project began I had my Ipad out and on Mimi G's site for instruction, I was completely in class at this point :) I got so into it and found that I was pretty good at it that I added side pockets, don't ask me how I figured that out lol and I also threw in a maxi dress for good measure which I will show a bit later.  I was completely on a roll.  Thank you Mimi!
